The Thais most certainly take pride in their cooking! The explosion of varying flavours at one go in your mouth is totally electrifying! It is of no wonder that the cuisine places emphasis on lightly prepared dishes with strong aromatic components and a spicy edge. It is known for its complex interplay of at least three and up to four or five fundamental taste senses in each dish or the overall meal: sour, sweet, salty, bitter, and spicy.
When one’s in Thailand, great local food could be enjoyed anywhere – from the humble street hawkers, the underrated mini restaurants (or carinderias), all ranges of restaurants, and up to your hotel’s all day dining cafes, why even by the poolside! Glorious grub simply abounds!
A traveler in Karon doesn’t have to go far in search of affordable yet authentic local grub. We can eat Thai food everyday and truth be told, in the past few years of being frequent Phuket visitors, we’ve been quite loyal only to two food purveyors hereabouts: the Server Room of our Grand Sunset Hotel (do check out my other post about that) and the neighbouring Bai Toey Thai Restaurant (www.baitoeyrestaurant.com)! We’ve checked out most of the food outlets on this strip and hands-down, these two are certainly the best of the lot!
Let’s focus first on the irresistibly delectable offerings of the Bai Toey! Located in the Old Phuket Hotel compound, it is highly rated on Tripadvisor and 500 Baht (approximately Php 750) should leave two diners crawling back to their hotel more than tummy happy!
