Saigon’s top cultural attraction. Sensational village life. Unique live music. Neo-classic and contemporary dance. Four qualities that embody the AO Show. There actually isn’t much to say about the extravaganza except that it’s both utterly delightful and aesthetically relevant! Devoid of a storyline, it’s quite simply, a most entertaining depiction of everyday scenes of the Vietnamese way of life. It is surely something not to be missed! The splendid fusion of enticing musical instruments and uncomplicated stage sets plus unusual props (made from materials endemic to Vietnam like bamboo poles and rattan baskets of all sizes) and the acrobatic brilliance of the dancers are most definitely a treat to behold the senses! After the show, one is certain to leave the the venue, the magnificent Saigon Opera House, with a wide smile plastered on your face with a deeper appreciation of Vietnamese culture!
No wonder the AO Show has received the Excellence Award from no less than Tripadvisor, the widely acclaimed and respected travel advisory site! Even their Facebook page’s garnered almost six thousand followers. The reviews are unsurprisingly all praises.
Concept (as lifted from aoshowsaigon.com):
A O Show which is phonetically
understood as the Ahhh! Ohhh! Show,
has performed since Feb 2013.
It depicts the charming beauty and richness in
culture of Vietnamese lives in the countryside and
the country’s urbanization in 60 minute length.
The show is a mix of bamboo cirque, acrobatic
acts, contemporary dance and theatrical visual
art. Live music which echoes the Southern
work songs, and scenic lighting design
makes the A O Show, which performs
at the historic Saigon Opera House,
worth seeing when you visit
Ho Chi Minh City.
Next time you find yourselves in Saigon, make sure you catch the AO Show (book thru your hotel’s front desk)!
Since picture taking isn’t allowed during the show, I am republishing these breathtakingly beautiful photos with the permission of the administrator of the AO Show Facebook page. My heartfelt thanks.
